Is a Karaoke Mixer Essential?

By Tony Livonia

Karaoke mixers are essential for singers who want to mix their recorded voice with karaoke backgrounds and transfer files to an MP3 in a hurry. MIDI, KAR, MP3 and OGG files can be used as background sound and wav file with recorded voice. Volume, balance, bass and treble can all be changed independently, enabling the most creative mix possible. Users can also change tone for background source, add special audio effects to voice tracks or choose one of 14 predefined sound presets. In addition, they can control over 16 MIDI channels, changing its volume, balance and instrument for all midi and KAR background sources.

A standard karaoke sound system often misses the mark, sacrificing sound quality - crisp with treble and thick with bass. Many karaoke system owners have spent lots of money on high-end speakers, only to realize that the sound quality is still simply not there. They could have saved thousands of dollars had they invested in a relatively inexpensive karaoke mixer instead.

A karaoke mixer features microphone inputs, volume control, key controller, echo, delay, repeat, and a vocal reducer. Some of these functions can be omitted, depending on user needs and budget. If an amplifier/receiver is also needed to boost the speakers, users could add mixing amplifier options.

Karaoke mixers allow users to:
• combine music and vocal sources
• enhance sound quality
• turn DVD, VCD OR CD+G players into karaoke machines.

When a karaoke mixer is connected to a pre-existing system, both the music and vocal signals can be customized for optimal quality to enhance the output of source device, amplifier and speakers. Since karaoke mixers have separate equalizers for music and microphone channels, users have far more flexibility to enhance fine-tuning than the options available with traditional treble and bass controls or master-level equalizer configurations.
